Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fell through the ice in a river Watched my dog fall through the ice on a river in north Idaho during January of this year (2019) while we were cross country skiing. I army crawled over to where he fell in as he tried but couldn't get out. The current was starting to push him under the ice. I leaned further than I should of trying to pull him out. I fell in. Lost my breath immediately. My dog was panicking. I pushed my dog out to an easier section of the bank to climb out. Then pulled myself out. Completely soaked in the middle of winter we began to ski home. Wearing these thermals and other smart wool gear helped me make it back to the cabin that night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working man's best friend I'm not a hiker or a snowboarder. I'm not likely to climb Everest or compete in a dog sled race across the straits of Alaska. I suspect a lot of you that have happened past this review aren't either. Probably, like me, you work in the cold in the winter, maybe sit in a deer stand on the weekends. I'm not even sure how to pronounce " merino" cause I've never heard anyone actually speak the word. But i can tell you without hesitation it works. I watch people shiver all winter while I am comfortable. Burn your cotton long johns. Smartwool is worth every penny.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as well made as they used to be I have always loved merino wool stuff, namely smart wool stuff. I have several base layer shirts that I have had and used for years. They are durable and well made, and will last man more years. Because of this, I decided to buy a pair of 250 bottoms. Very comfy, standard long john bottoms. My beef is that the seam under the crotch has completely blown out! Even on PRODEAL these bottoms are already ridiculously over priced, and now they are cheaply made, and I am stuck with them. This experience has made me look at other companies. Also, smart wool doesn't use 100% merino wool in a lot of their stuff any more. Most notably their sweaters. Check out MINUS 33. Not the best quality stuff, but it is NEARLY HALF THE COST! The socks are still the best though...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Okay, I'm in love ... These are not cheap. To put it mildly. And I just bought my second pair. Why? Well, the first pair actually saved me a couple hundred bucks. I was heading out for a 30 mile overnight backpack trip on the A.T. in North Carolina and the weather was going to be very wet and relatively cold. Colder than my sleeping bag could handle, which is about 50 degrees. I thought about buying a new bag, but then decided to invest in the Smartwool Mid 250 Bottom and long sleeve top. Worked like a charm. Slept very very warmly that night and became a believer in Smartwool Merino wool. Warm, comfortable. Like I said - I'm in love. And I'm saving my money to get some more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, comfortable. Worth the money I bought these as a warmer option to the thin Icebreaker Anatomica leggings I already have. These are much thicker, very warm. I've worn them once under a pair of jeans in 20 degree weather to snowblow the driveway. They kept me plenty warm, whereas the thinner pair always left my legs chilly. I suspect they would be appropriate for down to 0* with just jeans, assuming you're moving and active (though I'm a warm person {temp, not demeanor}). They are a great fit, contoured to my body so even my relatively snug jeans went on over them. I bought the Small size for my 5'6" 140lb frame. Hopefully they will prove durable over time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product - could use more options for fit I love the NTS line of base layers. The 250 is a good weight, offers adequate warmth as a base layer, and it is soft, comfortable wool. I just wish there were more size options to meet my needs. I'm 6'4'' and ordered the large for the inseam length. But overall it's too baggy for a base layer. A Medium Long would have been perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable I would give them 5 stars, but the waist band curls up. It's a nice wide waist band, but it should be stitched so it doesn't curl. Other than that, I really like them. They are very warm and comfortable.
