The Smartwool Women's Merino 250 Baselayer 1/4 Zip Top is a midweight baselayer made with 100% Merino wool. It's soft on the skin, moisture-wicking, naturally odor-resistant, and features flatlock seams to prevent any irritation or bunching when you're all layered up. The quarter zip makes it easy to cool off a bit or just look cooler in general, so it's a win-win.

Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential wardrobe item [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love everything about this merino base layer. The soft feel, the fit, the fact that it never smells or looks dirty. Even though it's called a base layer I wear it as a sweater over a tee shirt or thinner merino layer nearly every day except during the summer. I have an older dark gray one that's lasted for many years. I patched the elbow on my old one to increase it's lifespan. I wear the old one for gardening and house work and the new one when I want to look nicer. I would love it if Smartwool made one in my favorite color - deep mossy green. I would also love it for all clothing to feel so good and last so long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth every penny. Fabulous top. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wore this very comfy and flattering layer almost every single day on our recent trip to Alaska. Who knew that August was the start of the rainy season and that they were going to have "Atmospheric River" events? Not me. But thankfully, I was prepared with layers like this. I wore it kayaking, hiking, on boats and trains and small planes, out to dinner for 3 weeks and only needed to wash it 1x! Granted, it was cool weather, but I was working / sweating some and this top did not get stinky (I don not use deodorant either). Did I mention that it is very flattering and the blue-green color is gorgeous.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ok love the product but the zipper goes up the nose! Ok I absolutely love this thermal. The fit is super complementary, I got a off white color (offered last season) that is really flattering. It's really my favorite except...except...the zipper is stiff and does not lay flat. This is really not an issue except for you when you take it off quickly, the zipper can get stuck in your nose when you pull it over your head. It's REALLY painful when this happens. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else but the times it has happened it's been horrible. This is because the zipper lays at a 90 degrees angle instead of flush with the fabric. I hope smartwool changes this soon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Used to love this garment I have purchased one of these tnecks each of the last 6 years. They keep getting smaller and smaller. The one I bought this year is likely my last since it barely accommodates me. Good thing that they are high quality since the 6 I have will likely last a very long time. This is my go to base layer for all outdoor activities and functions beautifully. Too bad Smart Wool has seems to not try to fit a middle aged figure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flattering, cozy, breathable, odor-free, versatile Very soft, warm, and comfortable. Allows full freedom of movement in the shoulders. Narrows to give a flattering fit at the waist. A little long for me (I'm 5'2"), but the fitted shape made it acceptable, and turned up sleeves stay in place, off my hands, and out of the way of hand-washing and manual work. Zip-up to protect against biting wind or unzip to cool down during exercise. I'm wearing these all the time now. This 100% merino wool top doesn't get smelly like my synthetics, so laundry is simpler now. Make sure to measure yourself and use Smartwool's size chart when selecting your size. This gave a perfect result for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love love love! Very well made. I have 2 of these for a few years now, a solid deep blue and a purple stripe. They are so warm and versatile. I'm a size 16, 5'8" tall, with a long torso and these are just long enough for me. I wear them hiking, walking the dogs, traveling and as casual wear. They layer nicely, on really cold days I wear them with a smartwool tank or long sleeve silk base layer underneath. I wash them inside out on gentle using woolite only and hang dry. So far, no pilling, holes or tearing. They still look new! I like that they are 100% wool. Can wear for days without any smell. Am lusting after the charcoal grey....Wish they would offer this in white/natural.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it Each year for the past 5+ I have treated myself to a new pair of 250 tops and bottoms. This year, the cut of the 250 "Classic Thermal" is significantly smaller throughout -- shorter body / torso, much more narrowly tapered, even seems lighter weight, despite the 250 label. I buy these pieces for layering and warmth and don't want to worry about bare skin being exposed every time I raise my arms above my head or rotate my torso. Sizing up would just add bulk all around. Please Smartwool, don't fix what wasn't broken!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great color; slightly different cut than previous versions I love the new color selection and the back body seam that wraps to the front; however, I miss the seaming that extended from the shoulders up the neck that provided added design and structure, as the neck on the current version tends to flop. The current version is also a slightly looser cut than previously offered and is not as form fitting as I would like a base layer to be....you may want to size down. I wish smartwool would bring back a full turtleneck without the 1/4 zip option.
