Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought in every color/pattern! For years I only wore running skirts and then I found these shorts. I love them so much that I have purchased them in every color/pattern. The vent in the back helps to keep me cool on those really hot days. I love the zipper pocket, center back and the top seem pocket in the front. I get compliments no matter which pair I am wearing. I am 5'5 and 120 lbs. I could have gone with the size S but I like them a little roomy and these are PERFECT in every way. They also dry really quickly after a creek soak! I have worn them for short runs up to 100K and have not once thought I needed something else. Please don't change the design!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Much larger than the size chart indicated [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am 5'6" and 120lbs and bought a small because my measurements match what the size chart indicated and these shorts are so large I have to cinch the drawstring until they're awkwardly wrinkly all around the waistband (and gap at the front). I thought that would be okay and they might shrink a little in the dryer, but it turns out they fall down when I'm running because the drawstring is elastic and they did not shrink at all in the dryer. Really not impressed. What's the point of a size chart if it doesn't accurately represent your products?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nope Great feeling outer material, fit was great for athletic build (5' 6", 133 lbs). However, these shorts are not for me for the following reasons, to each their own. - Very low rise (I do have a long torso and short legs, so these shorts were barely hovering above the top of my underwear. Not on the verge of falling down, but I prefer a mid-rise) - Strange 4 vent system on the back of the short; if the shorts are pulled up, this causes the vents to open and show skin? Some people might like the vents but I don't prefer holes in my shorts - The waist band (although it appears like a large flat band) is actually just a slender 1/2" band at the top and doesn't feel especially forgiving

Rated 5 out of 5 by from S Soft! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shorts are great for running/hiking! The material is so smooth and soft. I love the ventilation along the seam in the back. The length was perfect. My one complaint is that the lining is a bit large. The waist fit a bit loose but I was able to adjust that with the tie on the inside. However, the inner merino wool layer was loose along the edges. I am between XS and S. I usually go up when I am between sizes, but in this case I should have gone down to the XS. For reference I am 5'2 120. I love the material so much, I would definitely buy this product again! #SmartwoolLove

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Favorite shorts pretty much ever Bought another pair the day I tried them out. The fabric and cut are amazing; the liner is substantial but not binding or irritating and I'm hoping will be odor resistant (I bought these as opposed to a short with a synthetic liner because those things STINK after a while). The fabric of the shorts themselves is fantastic too, it moves and sits really well, very smooth and clean looking. It is substantial but flowy. The fit is also amazing, the waistband is wide and smooth and sits really well while the legs are plenty roomy for unrestricted movement. I never have to adjust them once their on; no pulling down on the legs or up on the waist band, they just fit. I gave 4 stars though because the sizing was a little odd to me; I'm 5'5", 130# and ordered a M at first that are a little gapey at the waist (will be keeping them though), but the S, while they fit the waist perfectly, I thought were much shorter in the leg. Again, not a big deal, I like the fit of both, but it was not what I expected from the sizing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from HMMMM....Not Sure... Hmmm...not sure about this one. The entire short is proportioned correctly to an XS, but the waist does not give at all. Not like all other shorts of all other brands. But yet, the entire short is big, and stretches, and gives. Not so for the waist. You almost have to bump up to a bigger size, but then the rest of the short would likely be floppy, the way that it's cut. The design team failed on this one IMO. Not quite there. Close, but not there. I'm 5'3" and bought the XS. I had to "shimmy" the short on due to the unforgiving waist, not because of the rest of the short. Once on, the size was right, but waist was TIGHT and I have a small waist: 24/25. Shocking they made the waist like this. Waist needs to be totally redone. It needs to give, stretch, and not cut into the waist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Wardrobe Staple! I can't recommend this pair of shorts enough! I haven't worn athletic shorts in years. Other shorts just never quite fit right in the waist and felt like they hugged all the wrong places. Not these! These shorts were my summer quarantine staple. They are SO comfortable, light and breathable. The fabric dries quickly after a day of fly fishing and wet wading, super comfy for summer hiking with room for movement as I scrambled up rocky areas. I was so pleased with how they suited my muscular build. I am a bit thicker through the thighs and rear and they were perfect. The waist has great stretch if you need it slightly bigger and a drawstring if you want it a little more snug. For reference I am 5' 8", typically a size 14/16 in pants. I purchased size XL shorts, could have done size Lg but I prefer a more active fit. I will be buying these again, no doubt!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommend I have never loved a pair of running shorts so much! Super lightweight and comfortable and a good length. I am about 5'6" and ~130 and they are a little loose around my waist but they rest well on my hips and I have no issues with them staying up. Next time I may try an XS instead of SM.
