Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and haulable gear dump I've had the Cinder 55 for two years now. I used it in Yosemite, Red Rock, the East Side of the Sierras, the Cottonwoods in Utah, local crags, etc. and it's never let me down. My biggest pro on this pack is its toughness. The materials (fabric, metal buckles, etc) inspires durability and its simple construction prevent any breakdown. Actually, the main fabric ages very well and becomes a bit more supple with time. If I need to carry a full rack, food and clothing in the pack itself, I can always use the top lid to hold my rope. This is a great pack for anyone who climbs outside and needs a durable pack to haul all of their gear around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best climbing pack I've ever owned. Only had it out for one weekend of trad/aid so far. It's just big enough to fit my whole rack, helmet, and layers. The rope gets strapped under the lid. The guide book pocket on the back is pretty handy. The loops at the mouth of the bag allowed me tie off my rope and use it as a rope bucket. Equalize the three haul points with a long sling/cord and it's a pretty good personal size haul bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely durable, intentionally designed. I used this to carry my gear for a two-day backpacking and climbing trip. Everything fit in the bag from my ropes and harnesses to my camping gear and food. Plenty of room and extremely durable. Very harsh rock in my area and plenty of strikes and scrapes occurred but no surface damage and even very little cosmetic damage. You can barely tell it was touched.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable roomy bag Fully loaded with all my climbing gear, food and water it was heavy but comfortable to hike around with for the whole day. Even did some technical scrabbling and the pack stayed put on my back. Love how large the opening is and that it stands up on its own. It's so easy to load. Top pocket holds my climbing books and more and is easy to access.

Size Guide

The North Face Men's Packs

SIZE One Size Small / Medium Large / X-Large
Torso Size (Adjustable) N/A" 15 - 20" 17 - 22"
Torso Size (Fixed) 17 - 20" 16 - 19" 18 - 21"
Hipbelt Size 28 - 40" 28 - 34" 35 - 42"

HOW to MEASURE TORSO SIZE
1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.

HOW to MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE
1. Measure around your body where the hipbelt will rest while you hike. This should be just above your iliac crest.

NOTES
The size info above is for The North Face technical and backpacking packs. Day packs and work / school packs are offered in One Size, and feature adjustable straps to fit an array of sizes.
