DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

The North Face DryVent

The North Face DryVent
Dryvent™ fabrics are engineered to be fully waterproof, windproof and breathable. The outer face of the textile is treated with a durable water repellant finish that helps form droplets and repel water from the surface. Each multi layered textile is engineered to allow water vapor to pass through from the inside to the outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and Rugged It's typically difficult to find a coat fit for a bad winter that actually looks stylish. It's always a compromise between suffering the elements or suffering your sense of style. I'm really pleased that this coat seems to bridge the gap. I received it just before our weather was consistently around 22˚F and it's been a lifesaver. Removing the outer shell gives you a great-looking low-profile down jacket that can work well in a cold restaurant and don't want to feel like you're still in your bulky outer layer. I think this is the first time I've been in love with a winter coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NORTH FACE- ALWAY AND FOREVER!! I've done extensive research over the years before my family and I decided that we will always purchase nothing but North Face jackets. After having worn many, we stand by the product 100%. The reason? Simply put - they're perfect in every way. The style and color choices are great. The comfort level is unsurpassed; the quality is incomparable. For the quality you're getting, the price is just right. In terms of durability, it takes a REALLY long time to run these jackets down and when you finally do, have no fear because the warranty department is excellent in finding the right solution to your problem. In short, an exceptional brand!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Jacket! The jacket was as promised; quality you would expect from a prominent outfitter. Stitching was solid and the material felt durable. My wife and I are avid hikers, but the Midwest weather always put a damper on our winter outings. With a jacket as warm, light and durable as this, and backed by a lifetime manufacturer's warranty, I feel very confident in cold weather camping and hiking. The arm pit vents are a nice touch too! When I ordered the jacket I used the measurement guide to find my size, I was on the bigger side of the large, but went ahead and ordered it anyways. Turns out I should've ordered the X Large. I promptly ordered the XL and returned the large. Had the garment more room in the chest and shoulders, I would have kept it. My fault, not North Face's.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap would not recommend, weak product support ... Received this jacket as a xmas gift, and by early February the inner lining had begun falling apart under the arm ... where it looks as if the fabric failed. My wife did not buy the jacket from TNF , and the retailer did not have any TNF winter coats in store, having starting their spring stocking. I contacted TNF support and was told the jacket could not be brought in to a TNF retail store (say NYC) for exchange, and I would have to ship to the company for a 4-6 week evaluation. Given the choice of not having a coat for the rest of the winter, I simply got a refund and bought a new Patagonia ... Please read the above carefully and make your decisions before purchasing this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Comfortable and looks good I have had this Jacket for a month now in Michigan and it is great for this area. It's warm enough for the freezing temps and breathable enough for the above freezing temps as well. It is lightweight and comfortable. The velcro on the cuffs is too narrow and takes more effort to line up then it needs. The inner jacket and outer shell move around when you take it on and off. The cut makes it not very conducive for a wide range of movement. I would not recommend this jacket for out door sports like skiing or sledding because of this but is great for general cold weather use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great warmth for its weight Got this for NYC winters and it seems to do the job...the two jackets are a bit of a hassle to detach so you can't switch them out easily, but generally I think you'd want to wear both if going out in below 40 weather. Waterproof outer shell has rain drops roll off it but there are plenty that remain 'stuck' there as well...needs a good shake before going indoors. Pockets are not fleece lined so not particularly warm and sometimes water may slide off your arms and into the pockets if your hands are in them. Overall great warmth for its weight and size, but other TNF jackets may be worth a look [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Jacket I've Owned As I stated in the title of this review, this is hands down the best jacket I have owned. Since I have only been wearing it for a couple weeks, I don't know yet about the durability over time. But my impression is that it will last for many years to come. I wear this jacket daily in New England weather and with our most recent negative zero temperatures this jacket did a great job keeping me warm. The only critical comment (and this really isn't too critical)about this jacket is the sleeves may be just a very little too long. Although this is resolved with the Velcro cuffs which prevents the jacket from going over my wrists. Would much rather have it be a little Long that too short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PRODUCT This is such a great product. Combine this with layers and it will take you deep into the winter. The amount of pockets is great, and the fit is perfect. The hard outer shell comes about two inches further down than the insulated Down jacket, which was expected given winter jackets are usually a few inches longer. I've taken the down jacket out and wore it as itself and it is extremely warm. Add another layer of air between the down jacket and the shell and you're toasty warm. The cinch cord is on only the hard shell, which is a bit upsetting, but makes sense because it's longer. It'll trap your heat and keep snow out regardless.
