DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

The North Face WindWall

The North Face WindWall
WindWall is a fleece fabric that retains the comfort, flexibility and breathability of traditional fleece while eliminating wind chill, which enhances warmth. The unique bonding process cuts 80 - 95% of wind.

GORE-TEX fabric technology

GORE-TEX®
Garments made with GORE-TEX® fabric are durably waterproof, windproof and highly breathable, providing reliable weather protection and maximum comfort for a wide range of activities. These garments keep your body dry by allowing perspiration vapor to escape so you remain cool during activity and warm during cool-down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would definitely repurchase. Nice jacket, definitely one of the best I've bought in recent years. I was skeptical after reading a few of the reviews on TNF website but am overall very happy. Yes the sleeves are a little long but when you're reaching and your forearms stay dry you'll be glad they are. It's a little tight across the back and in the arm pits but not uncomfortably so. I'm a little between sizes so it's either a little snug or a lot baggy in my case. I would definitely try one on before buy one, I tried both the L and the XL before making up my mind. It's not going to fit everyone perfectly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worse that previous edition I'm really disappointed with this jacket. Its more like production cost optimization, than improvement. - Missing chest pocket, which is a great disadvantage comparing to rev 2.0 (removing it decreased chest stiffness a bit, but not enough to make it valuable comparing to have a handy pocket) - Lining on shoulder is making jacket even more stiff that 2.0 was. - I can swear that back is a bit narrower in shoulders making material stretch while moving both arms forward - TNF did not improved hood as people were complaining since 1.0 , so slogan "seek no shelter" is still an abstraction when it rains with wind. (Actually i witnessed straight rain just few times in entire lifetime) - Sleeves are still too long, so they are bend whole time decreasing gore-tex lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Fit and Strong Construction The jacket feels great and durable with the material that was used in its construction. I haven't put the jacket through anything rough but I am confident it will survive and last. I have many other North Face jackets and a lighter rain jacket but I wanted something that would be better to have for colder weather without being bulky and this feels like it will do the job. The jacket is slimmer than expected but this is only in the upper back portion that I notice this. Its not bad or a deal breaker just something I noticed. All other areas (i.e. sleeves and totally length) fit exactly how I like them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Last season's but who cares Versatile light weight jacket. I was in the market for a hard shell jacket I could layer under. But decided to go with this soft shell Gortex jacket instead. I am in between sizes L fits snug but comfortable. XL fits well with a little extra room to move around and layer. I decided to size up. Glad I did. I am able not only to wear over a puffy down jacket. But also wear over a t shirt. The adjustable cuffs make this jacket very accommodating. This jacket is light. It will not keep you toasty in cold weather. But it will keep the wind and water out. The jacket is a little rigid,, zippers are stiff. I'm hoping with time both will break in to a comfortable manageable garment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very good technical jacket. Did a lot of research and wanted to buy a jacket that was many things for many conditions. I didn't want a cumbersome, lumbering winter jacket as i spend most of my time in the tropics but also spend some winters in Chicago. This jacket is truly wind and waterproof, which is awesome. When layering with a fleece underneath, this jacket can serve as a winter jacket, though it's not enough in the fierce teeth of heavy winter (below 20 degrees). the pit zips are totally free of mesh or any fabric when open, which is great for ventilation. The jacket is made very well. What i dont like---The jacket is a bit stiff, especially in the chest. There are cavernous chest pockets that start below collar-bone and bottom out near sternum. This makes the jacket feel like there is a hinge when it's zipped up and i bend down to tie my shoes, etc. Takes a bit of getting used to. All in all, i do love this jacket and hopefully the stiffness of this jacket lessens as i wear it more are more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great versatile jacket This jacket is really comfortable to wear even with just a shirt underneath. Great for casual use and for wet conditions. The only minor complaint i have is its kinda stiff on the back when you stretch both arms forward but overtime I found the stiffness decreased. This is currently my favorite everyday jacket to wear around town. For cold days I was still able to wear a fleece jacket underneath it just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waterproof and Comfortable I was searching for a jacket that combined the waterproofing of a hard shell with the comfort and flexibility of a softshell. After I retired my decade+ old TNF Apex jacket, I decided to invest in the Apex Flex GTX 3.0 and I couldn't be more satisfied. It is very comfortable and the fit is just right for me (6'1 - 185, Size M). I couldn't fit a big layer underneath, but my plan for this jacket wasn't necessarily to layer but the opposite. I generally run warm and selected this jacket for an upcoming trip to Iceland, specifically so I wouldn't have to layer. I've worn this in 60F degree weather with the pit zips open and haven't overheated. When it's zipped up, I couldn't feel the wind or water coming through at temps between 30-40F. This is exactly what I was looking for. Waterproof, warm/breathable, and stylish. My only con would be the weight compared to a hard shell, but honestly that isn't really much of a con because I think this jacket isn't meant to be an ultralight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for cooler rainy weather The jacket fit, as several other TNF jackets, was a little snug for the S (but the M was drastically too big!) and movement seems a bit restrictive. However, when it to comes to heavy rains and winds this jacket is spot on! If you can get past the fit this is a great jacket for its purpose!
