The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka III is a insulated jacket for the worst of winter. The DryVent™ 2L shell is weatherproof, preventing wind, snow and sleet from soaking you to the bone. The faux fur ruff at the hood is removable, but keep it on and pull the hood around your face for extra warmth. Or just zip the whole hood off for a style that suits the city. Plenty of large pockets hold onto your gloves and extra beanie, but the best part of this jacket is hidden within, the 550-fill goose down insulation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm Jacket but Zipper is seriously badly designed This is an extremely warm jacket which holds really well from warmth perspective in the New England winter. I literally start to sweat if the temperature in above 40 degrees. However, the zipper is seriously badly designed. First of all it does not start from all the way down (rather 4 inches from the bottom) which makes it harder to find. Secondly, putting the zipper sides together is such a hassle it takes a couple of minutes to just get it together and zip up. It gets extremely frustrating after a while to waste time on it. I am seriously contemplating returning it to North Face for this reason alone. or take it to a tailor to fix this issue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 2014 McMurdo Parka I bought a new McMurdo parka to replace one that I had bought 3 years ago and was severely torn. My old McMurdo parka had a two way zipper to open and close the parka. The new one has only a one way zipper. A parka of this caliber, price and especially coming from The North Face has to have a two way zipper for when you have to kneel down or get in or out of a transport vehicle. The Hyvent material was also thinner than my old McMurdo parka. The thinner material is acceptable if the parka still keeps the heat in and can be considered an improvement. However, the lack of a two way zipper in unforgivable. Raise the price if you have too, but keep the product the same.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from McMurdo Parka Zipper This parka requires a large heavy duty Zipper set. It is impossible to insert the tiny male part of zipper into double slider within ten minutes, only after pulling the coat above waist under direct vision. North Face cut costs, sewed in a zipper which belongs on a light sweater. There is no zip tab to assist inserting the left side into the sliders which must line up Perfectly before the zipper can close. Closing the snaps first only makes it worse because you cannot see bottom of the zipper. Sleeves do not have snow guards. Coat useless as a substitute for a ski jacket on a very cold day.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm parka for -10 c when it is not windy I've had the jacket (previous model) for 10 years and it has served me well in -10 c conditions when it is not windy. I live in Helsinki where in the winter it is usually very windy and wet with sleet (due to the proximity of the ocean) rather than arctic "cold". In these types of windy/wet conditions (when the temperature is around 0 c) the jacket does not really work as the wind gets through (especially through the cuffs). The jacket is also fairly bulky compared to other similar parkas. I would recommend the jacket to someone who lives in a cold area (Canada, Northern Scandinavia etc.) in a more continental climate as opposed to a wet ocean climate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Decent product, too bad it doesn't last The product was decent enough -- and was warm in Canadian winters. However, after a machine wash there was a large tear on the jacket despite it being washed exactly per the instructions on the jacket. Its infuriating to see such poor workmanship on such an expensive product. The worst part is that The North Face is refusing to honour their "lifetime" warranty by saying that they could not "verify the reason for the tear." I guess no one told me that I needed to have a North Face representative sitting next to me while I do my laundry.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good but could easily be imrpoved It's a nice coat but I was surprised that there is only one interior storage pocket and it's very small. My wallet barely fits in there. A large phone won't fit in there. There should either be two pockets or they should make this pocket bigger. Also, the pulls on the zippers are falling off and I've only had the coat for a few weeks. The metal pulls on the zippers are very small, so without the string pulls it's hard to open the pockets. This is a pretty big flaw. On the plus side, the coat is very warm and I've received a couple of compliments on the style of the coat. It's also favorably priced against similar parkas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almosts prefect execpt why no 2 way zipper??? Warm and good quality build. And the "not enough insulation in the arm area" issue already been addressed by NF in 2014 ver. Today Toronto temp was -20c, and I have to stay outdoor for almost an hour, this jacket and a 100 lvl fleece as a mid layer able to keep my body warm. And my only complaint is why no 2 way zipper? MCMURDO PARKA is a long jacket, and I just don't understand why the designer took away the 2 way zipper??? Or North Face want to cut cost??? It is so inconvenience when you need to get in/ out from car; take something from your pant's pocket OR as simple as bent down to pick up something on the floor.....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Parka I needed a coat during the Chicago winter as I walk to the train and to the office. I got this just in time for the early snow and bitter cold already hitting us in November. I would not have made it if I didn't have such a warm coat. I will say it was unclear from the images whether the coat would be bulky or more form fitting since some pictures show it one way and others the other way. I wish it was a little less bulky, but when you are out shoveling snow or walking in the snow and wind it doesn't matter. All that matters is if it keeps me warm and dry. It does its job. I hope to have it for years to come.
