DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat! Here is my take on sizing. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If this helps anyone: I'm 5'10" and 150 lbs. I'm pretty slim and always wear Medium jackets, shirts etc from all brands. Based on the reviews I read here, I sized down to Small and took a chance. It fits me perfectly. Warm, comfortable, well made, stylish. I love it, but Medium would have been sent back for being way too big. It is a "regular fit" garment, but for my slender frame it isn't too roomy or bulky. I love the four subtle large pockets, without the usual large parka-look pocket flaps. Functional and stylish, and feels very well made. I am quite pleased and very glad I decided to size down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, stylish jacket [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The jacket holds true to harsh Chicago weather. I get cold easily and can wear just a T-shirt under it and still feel warm. I'm 5'9" 163lb with an athletic build and size small fits great, with room to layer if need be. I like the range of motion my arms have so it doesn't feel bulky. I really love the fleece lined pockets and hand slit things attached to the sleeve. It also has a technical strap so if you wanted to you can take it off and carry it like a backpack, which I use a lot as well. If I had to pick one downside it's the main zipper; wish it was thicker but other than that this jacket is worth it over other really expensive brands for half the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this Jacket I bought this jacket last week when it was 55 degrees in Boston. I'm gearing up for the cold elements of the Northeast weather. After about 3 days of wearing this jacket in 20 degree weather I am in love !!! I'm an XL in all North Face Jackets I have bought in the past; I am 6'1" 230 lbs. I went a size up and it seems to be a good choice. I wanted the ability to wear layers underneath in case of the sub-freezing temperatures. The only cons I have about the jacket are some loose feathers in the sleeves. On a few occasions when taking the jacket off I noticed little feathers on my sweaters/shirts sleeves. Also the faux fur on the hood, the attachment is a little sensitive and easy to detach if you are not careful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 100% Recommend Only if you Size Down Props to the reviewer "Disappointed in the Rockies" for stating that this jacket runs HUGE. I'm 6'3, 205 lbs and have only ever worn L & XL across all brands my entire life. Because of the recommendation to size down, I ordered a Medium and the fit is great. Even with a hoodie on it was comfortable and I had a little bit of room. I was worried the sleeves would be too short but they are perfect. I recommend the jacket but definitely size down 1-2 sizes, it's crazy how much it runs large.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality, but missing features [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought and returned, as I expected more for the price. First as others have mentioned, the size is bigger than you think. My other North Face were Large, but this one was too big. Second, it's missing a draw cord for both the hood and waist/hem. Really hard to keep out the Wisconsin cold without those, so I returned it rather than trying a different size. Other mentionables: - I don't know who uses the fur hood liner. It clips on with buttons and seems mostly useless. - The gussets at the wrists are quite nicely done - Overall materials and feel is typical good North Face quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very warm and relatively affordable I moved to a cold midwestern state for school from a warm eastern state. Is perfect for keeping me warm when I am walking downtown, walking to class, cleaning my car, etc. I'd compare the warmth of this parka to other brands like Canada Goose but it comes at less than half the price. Also, is pretty stylish. Overall, I'd recommend. The only issue is that a M is a bit too small but a L is a bit too big but that is more an issue with my body type as most jackets run that way on me. For most people, I'd say it fits true to size

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding coat [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Awesome coat! Thankful The Northface team offered a discount to first responders during this time. I count it a blessing. I've always worn sz L in all Northface clothing, jackets, and coats. Reading the reviews, I decided to go with a M. Im 6'0, 205 lbs and the coat fits perfectly. Well done The Northface!
