DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

The North Face Thermoball

The North Face Thermoball
Thermoball utilizes PrimaLoft synthetic fiber clusters to closely mimic down clusters. This offers the heat retaining power of down, but with the added durability and versatility of synthetic insulation. It'll keep you toasty warm, even in wet-weather conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Similar Experience to "GREAT TRAVEL JACKET!" Review Below I have two Thermoball jackets -- the original version, and the newer slim-cut version -- and agree with the "GREAT TRAVEL JACKET!" review below that the new ones are too tight. Many brands offer "regular" and "slim" versions of their more popular products, and I think that would be a good way for TNF to go with the Thermoball. These are versatile, stylish jackets, but you're missing out on a significant demographic -- older customers, and people who are fit, but not slim -- that would buy Thermoballs if they were more forgiving... as the original version was.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stylish and warm! I'd buy this jacket again! This jacket was an early Christmas gift for my husband. He wore it today as he was out and about in high 30's degree temps. The jacket is lightweight but warm and allows for freedom of movement. Great large and deep pockets on each side, also one on the inside chest. Collar provides good warmth from wind on the neck. Color was right on as shown online and sleeves and overall length were perfect. I took some advice from some of the reviews for this item which said to order a size up. He wears an XL, I bought XXL. While he may have fit in an XL, the XXL was just right - gave him plenty of room if he wanted to layer. Excellent buy, delighted with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed I typically ride my motorcycle everyday to and from work. Lately the temps have been between 45-60 degrees which of course feels much colder when you're riding at 70 mph. With just a 3/4 zip long sleeve underneath this jacket I can completely comfortable in these conditions. The jacket is definitely wind proof and very warm. The only fit issue I have is it feels right across the upper part of my back. I am 5'10 185 lbs. I am wearing a large which is a good fit other than what I just mentioned. Even so in most case scenarios that fit doesn't even come into play but I do think and XL would be the better fit. I love this jacket and would definitely recommend to anyone without question.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honestly, there's nothing quite like this... So, I've been looking for a lightweight jacket like this. I'd had a North Face down vest that lasted me for 12 years. The vest still worked great - countless washings, still insulated perfectly. It just got hideous looking. LOL! I bought this Thermoball jacket, and loved it immediately. It's surprisingly warm, very lightweight, fits like a dream. The feature of stuffing it into its left pocket makes for easy packing. I love this so much that I bought ones for my wife, daughter, and granddaughter. I think it's somewhat unique in a world filled with quilted jackets, due to the combination of features. I consider this water-resistant rather than water-proof. But, even wet, it keeps me warm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I will stop buying from TNF I think it is time to stop buying The North Face products. I have always been a medium and have several Thermoball jackets and a couple 3 in ones. I bought a light down jacket and had to return it as the medium was too tight. I reordered a large and kept it, but the sleeves were too long and I have to fold them. I just received a medium Thermoball Eco Jacket and it too is being sent back for being too tight. If I had not gotten a credits for a shell 3 in one covered by the lifetime warranty, I would not be buying any more from TNF, but it seems that it is getting hard to use the credit so that I can kiss TNF goodbye.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap material, tears easily My wife purchased this from a retail store. I wore it maybe 15 times. The outer layer is super thin and rips very easily. I was just moving stuff around the house and looked down and there were multiple rips in the fabric. The material is soft, but doesn't trap heat very well. Its good to wear when it's about 55-60 degrees out. Any colder and it doesn't really provide much warmth. Can't believe how fragile this thing is. The north face is a brand known for rugged hiking but this thing wouldn't last an afternoon in the outdoors. A small branch would tear right through this thing like plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit.. Nice Jacket I have a hard time finding a coat/ jacket to fit.. I am 6'3 210 athletic build.. XL is too big in the stomach and L is usually too short.. the large tall is a perfect fit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thermoball Loyalist This is probably my third Thermoball in the closet. But this one feels different based compared to the previous ones I have. It must be the new eco-friendly materials. Compared to the old ones which are little thinner, this one is a little thicker, a bit heavier, I would say. I like the matte finish compared to the shiny ones on the first ones. I just wish they had the logo in white stitching. I use this jacket a lot for my travel around the East Coast. (I did almost lose this one at the TSA check-in). It's also easy for me to tuck and hide. There is a Stow feature on the left pocket where you can fold it right in.
