DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The North Face's best in years I'll admit I was skeptical of the Ventrix at first...Patagonia's Nano-Air line of breathable, synthetic midlayers is great, and these seemed to be following the same thought process. After getting the Ventrix to use as a "beater" jacket, I have to admit I was pretty blown away, and it easily usurped my go-to pieces like the Nano-Air and, dare I say it, even the Atom LT. The fit is excellent for us skinny guys, and it layers easily. The giant chest pocket is perfect for a + sized phone or other goodies, and I can't say the same for similar jackets with minuscule pockets. I've used it primarily for backpacking and ice climbing, and it's excelled at both. The breathability of the jacket is phenomenal, stretch fabric and durability are great - I've had zero pilling in over a year of heavy use - and it takes a DWR re-treatment very well. Ventrix is easily TNF's best line of apparel in a long, long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An amazing jacket It is incredibly warm, especially for how light it is. I have a -2 ape index, which makes the sleeves slightly too long (hence 4 instead of 5 stars), but still just short enough to not be obvious. I haven't really used the jacket in a high activity environment yet to see just how breathable the VENTRIX system is, but I can vouch for its warmth. The jacket is super stretchy but not at the expense of durability. I will warn you, I got the "conquer blue" color which is far more green than the pictures. It's honestly a way cooler color than the picture in my opinion, but if you're expected a lighter gray, you will be surprised.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good with a few design flaws So I have the summit ventrix and the regular ventrix. They are both good jackets, they could be great jackets. The regular ventrix is a little tighter around the torso and because of the cuff elastic bands and something else, the sleeves run long. Look, you can see them bunched up on the model. Yup, that's pretty much what they're going to fit like on you as well. I considered cutting thumb loops to make the extra fabric worthwhile, or having the sleeves hemmed. Breathes well but not as well as I expected. Abrasion panels are a great idea but they twist forward like wonder woman's arm bracers. Looking forward to them getting the fit right and adding more lazer holes (mostly on back and pit region, could use more)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than a Nano.... I bought this jacket as a mid-layer under a shell. I didn't want a hood as they tend to get in the way when zippered up and wearing a helmet. I took this skiing to Jacksonhole and used it 3 out of the 4 days in single digits (at the top) and in the 20's (at the base). It was windy and snowy. This layer kept me warm and breathing when exerting myself via short hikes or skiing bumps/trees. It also kept me warm on the lift. It was the perfect layer. I chose the color black as it looks nice to wear casually as well and by itself (you may want the hood in this case....)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wish the insulation didn't bunch in my armpits I have primarily been wearing softshell jackets for the last 6+ years, so this is a change for me. I'm 6'3" and 175 and ordered a Medium. The torso and arms are perfect. However, they did something wrong with the arm holes. They are either cut too small, need to be rotated forward, or ??? But the insulation bunches in my armpits and the bulk is very uncomfortable (I know it is the arm holes because if I lift my arms, the torso fit is still OK). I love how lightweight it is and appreciate how the ripstop is not shiny and not too noisy. The arm length is just long enough (which is great for my height). Been using it with 2 layers in low 20's and I've been unzipping a bit to manage the generated heat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this jacket! This jacket is quickly becoming one of my favorite layering pieces as well as an everyday around town jacket. I am 6'4" 185lbs and the size large that I ordered fits me perfectly. The sleeves are the perfect length which is a spot I usually have trouble with at my size. The jacket is unbelievably comfortable and I actually forget I am wearing it most of the time. The stretchy fabric makes it so that it never feels like it is restricting my motion which is a huge deal for me. So far I have worn this(and been comfortable) anywhere from about 40 degrees down to the upper teens with a light fleece underneath. I have had it in winds up to about 20mph and have not been able to feel any wind through the jacket. The DWR has so far proven to be effective in the light drizzle I have exposed it to. I must also add that the zippers on the jacket are great the main zipper goes up and down so easily it almost makes you think it isn't working. If you can't already tell overall I am extremely pleased with the jacket. There is not really one thing that I think I would change, which is not something I can really say about any other jacket that I own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just, wow I'd been searching a long time for a good midlayer that is the right balance between warmth, breathability and wind protection. This jacket really checks all my requirements. I used it over a baselayer in 15-20 degree weather, kept me toasty warm while walking my dog. Needed an outer shell below 15 degrees and windy conditions. On a strenuous hike above 30 degrees, this jacket still kept me on the drier side.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from wish IT had a REG fit !!! tried a couple other brands of similar idea / material. WHY on earth, a pc. slated for outdoor active wear would be cut SO high in the pits / shoulders exc ... as to NOT allow full freedom of movement is beyond me. But if you were to re-design it w/ a slightly more REG fit AND adding reglan sleeves would be a bonus. (gaves more underarm / shoulder room ) And unfortunately , the MED was too big all over :(
