The North Face DryVent
Dryvent™ fabrics are engineered to be fully waterproof, windproof and breathable. DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Product Reviews
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not waterproof This is my 3rd DryVent or HyVent rain jacket from TNF. I guess I haven't learned my lesson. The material felt different, so I thought they had finally figured it out...I was wrong. I golfed with this in a light rain, and within 2 holes, my arms were soaked. It was light enough to play in, and was not a downpour. You can see the beading stop and it start to penetrate. I'm not sure how they can advertise these jackets as waterproof, but they are not. They offered to repair the jacket, but it is not broken, this is just the design. Breathability really doesn't matter if you are getting wet. The only truly waterproof jacket is one with Gor-Tex.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DOESN'T BREATHE!! Feels like I'm wearing a garbage bag! This jacket is great it you love feeling like you are wearing a garbage bag. Most raincoats, up until this year, had a mesh interior liner so your skin doesn't feel the plastic waterproof layer when you sweat. This coat , along with many other brand's raincoats I've noticed, does not have this mesh layer. There's just a vinyl liner touching your skin so if you begin to sweat even a little, the lining gets moist and starts feeling clammy. It's gross. I am puzzled how TNF can claim it is "breathable". There is just no way it can breathe without leaving it unzipped and well, that defeats the point of wearing a raincoat. TNF needs to design this coat with the mesh lining

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid quality great fit being 6'4" (1.93M), 215lbs (97.5KG) with very long arms and a bulky chest/shoulders fit is hard to pin down. Often I'm buying an XL size to get enough length in the arms and enough room to move in the shoulders. After trying the regular length XL at a NF store I was disappointed: it fit across the shoulders, but the sleeves just weren't long enough, and it billowed out at the bottom like a tent. I tried the reg L, which fit great across the shoulders but too short in the sleeves and body. BAM long L was the perfect fit. I wear this for mountain biking, windy days hiking, walking the dogs, spring rain etc etc. it's been absolutely perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All The Right Features I'm an avid hiker/climber living high in Colorado mountains where rain/wind shells are mandatory. I had several other name brand shells from major gear manufacturers that were badly worn and needed to be replaced. I kept looking for something that had: 1) Waterproof shell, 2) Windproof shell, 3) Adjustable hood, 4) Pit Zips, 5) Front Zipper, 6) Front Velcro, 7) Stow-able Pocket, 8) Fit right, 9) Was lightweight. After looking at all the major brands, the North Face Venture was the only shell I could find with all these features? Now that I've used the Venture Rain Shell in the field, I ordered two more. This is a bomb proof shell you cannot go wrong with.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very breathable, sleeves TOO LONG! This jacket has some nice features, but overall I'm not a fan and sent it back despite really wanting to keep it. If you look at the other jackets on this site, the common thread is the sleeves are way too long and this holds true here. I'm not sure what sort of body NorthFace is modeling its arm length on, but it doesn't seem to be mere mortals like me. The chest fit my stocky frame nicely, but the sleeves are so long that it's difficult to cinch the wrist tight enough to keep water out. Also not that breathable, felt a good bit like a sauna fairly quickly. Nice cosmetically, bonus that it's packable, but just not good enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rain Jacket! Took this on a Colorado trip to Maroon Bells, and this jacket really saved my butt. It rained and rained, but never once did my upper body get wet, and all the while I experienced excellent breath-ability and coverage. I was crazy impressed how well it worked! The only thing I might advise is that if you're planning to take this on a trip that will have lots of wind or is cold, this doesn't protect against wind due to its breath-ability... nor does it keep you warm. Long story short, if you're gonna deal with wind or be cold, bring some warm layers, this guy won't keep you toasty (though that's not really its job)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great jacket, but lining peels I've owned two of these. In both cases the lining started peeling in the hood after about a year's use, and within a month had gotten real grotty. I'm not into having to buy a new one every year. Secondly, the earlier version of this the inside pocket netting extended down to the hem creating too large "bin" or "bucket" or "magazine" pockets - the main reason I bought the jacket, in the city these kind of pockets especially convenient for books and shopping In the current version, they took that extended netting out and you're left with only two hand-pockets. Other than that, the jacket looks great, the waterproof is great. Now if they reinstated the bucket pockets and fixed the peeling I'd be happy to buy another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I purchased this as a ski, packable hiking and ice climbing outer layer. I am tall (ordered the tall size), and needed some extra room for winter layering, and to cover my wrists when reaching, as well as to cover my butt for some warmth. This has done it all. It is really lightweight, ripstop, looks sharp with TNF logo, Pit zips work and don't jam, front zipper is adequate with a large slider, and the side zippered pockets are deep. I have full movement in every direction. Hood is generous enough to go over a helmet. My only desire would be to add a chest pocket along the zipper flap...that would be perfect. However, for the price and current features, still have to give it a 5.
