Rated 1 out of 5 by from THE STRAP STARTED RIPPING TOO SOON I loved this backpack when I first got it. I am I highschool student. I got this just before the school year, and school started at the beginning of August. It is now mid September, and the right strap is only holding on by two threads. I carry the average weight in this backpack for a highschool student, so I don't see a reason why mine is ripping while my friends' bookbags (also Northface, just different styles) have held up for two and counting school years. Mine hasn't even made it through a semester. I do not have another bookbag that I can use in the meantime if I send this one back to get repaired or replaced. I was told that this would be a great backpack, and I was expecting to get several school years out of it. I am very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Design Bought this about a month ago for school. Basic needs: books and a lunch. Seems simple, right? Anyways, I quickly realized the design and layout of this bag are awkward. It doesn't stand upright at all because the bottom is slanted and slightly tapered, which also means it will only hold increasingly smaller books the more you put in. Also because the zipper ends so high up (above the water bottle pocket), it creates a bottle neck so once you have a textbook in already, good luck trying to squeeze larger items past it to utilize the tapered, bottom portion of the bag. Definitely wish I could return this and get something else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack Awesome quality! Extremely comfortable! One thing I really like is how the laptop pocket is lifted a bit from the bottom of the bag so when you put the bag down, your laptop doesn't hit the ground. The two side pockets are deep so your stuff doesn't bounce out. Would like to see water resistance feature, even though its already somewhat doing that; I've worn in the rain for 20 minutes and nothing inside gets wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No other backpack but NorthFace I bought a NorthFace Vault backpack for my nephew back when he was in high school nearly 12 years ago. He is now a college graduate and has been in the workforce in NYC for about 3 years. He used the same backpack constantly through all those years and told me just before Christmas this year that the backpack finally needed replacing but he wanted one as close to the original as we could find. I bought him this new NorthFace Vault backpack similar to his first and he loves it. These are extremely durable and comfortable backpacks and I highly recommend them !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looks and works great Feels great and looks great. Holds all of my books for classes and even some clothes. If folded the bag stays compact. For a two zipper bag, there is a lot of space. I don't like the the velcro on the inside. Looks like it's just slapped on there. Could have at least x box stitched it. My 15 inch gaming laptop is a tight fit but could my laptop is a bit big for a 15 inch. Maybe could have had a bit of stretch to the laptop pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High value for your money I have a problem in my back and I´m an executive. The other day I bought a very expensive business backpack but the first time I added more weight with some books it was terrible for my back. I went at this very moment to a The North Face store and asked for a Vault, because I already know it. I bpught it and transfer everything and went out very comfortable .... a terrific product for the third of the cost of the other one...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The North Face Vault backpack's base is too unstable I carry this backpack for travel purpose and personal use. It is comfortable but it does not have a stable base.

1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.

1. Measure around your body where the hipbelt will rest while you hike. This should be just above your iliac crest.
