Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed This backpack is very physically appealing; the positive comments end there. After wearing it traveling over the summer it went into the basement and didn't come with me to school because it caused me immense frustration. 1.You can't fit a lot into it. 2. Its extremely heavy 3. It is uncomfortable and hurt my back and shoulders. (I am young and in shape) 4. You have to completely take off the backpack and put in on the floor in order to get anything out of it. 5. It ruined many t-shirts because it caused a lot of friction. (this has never happened to be before with any backpack.)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pass on this pack I really wanted to like this pack, and there are certainly parts of it to love. The design, comfort, and overall concept are wonderful. Unfortunately, there are just some realities that make it unusable for me. I am returning this week. I bike commute and was planning on using this pack for commuting and general use. First, there is no way to access any part of this pack without taking it off. Even to get your water bottle or u-lock out of the side pockets, you have to take off the backpack. The side pockets come up way to high that you can't physically reach what is in them. Second, whatever you put in the side pockets takes exactly that amount of space out of the main pocket. The pockets don't stretch out, but rather just move in the pack. Your 28 liter bag become 24 liters almost instantly if you're trying to carry a water bottle and a coffee mug. The big pocket is awesome otherwise. Very easy to get into. The organization pocket is ok, but you can only unzip it really from one side. Also, even if you use the organization components, it is still a pretty far reach to grab anything in that pocket. The small pocket on the front of the pack is also not that accessible if you have stuff in your side pockets. It is hard to unzip, and I found it to be quite useless. Overall, this pack is lovely to wear on a bike, but there is little other functionality. Even trying to get a drink of water while walking is difficult, and to me that is just ridiculous. Also, very small thing - the zippers make so much noise when you walk with it. I've tried to adjust to not make so much noise but no luck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional & Sleek I purchased this backpack for both domestic & international travel. The design and functionality easily translate from a mountain hike to jaunting around cities as a tourist. When traveling, I use this pack in lieu of a purse, as it's far more comfortable to carry, and I can carry my larger water bottles, too. It's an added bonus that the sleek design doesn't feel overtly "outdoorsy" or compromise looking fashionable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE! I bought this bag to replace a 14 year old NF Recon, and was a but hesitant about the huge style shake-up at first... I was attracted to the tougher weather proofing on the front of the bag since I live in the rainy PNW and wanted the bag for a commuter. This thing just swallows everything I put in it! Extra clothes, lunch, water bottle, coffee flask... easy. My only gripe would be how narrow the side pockets and organizational pockets are... don't plan to put anything remotely bulky in there. But I've gotten creative and it can definitely fit my daily essentials. Overall, super happy with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smaller Than I'd Hoped, But Sleek OVerall I'm a student using this primarily for laptop, textbooks, notes, and water bottle/jacket/etc. It's smaller than other 26L backpacks I've had, but not as small as I initially thought upon opening it. There are 3 main zippered compartments (laptop, main, and top), and the top is meant to slant up and over the main compartment. The volume is primarily vertical--doesn't expand much horizontally. I can typically only use 1 of the side water bottle pockets at a time. But the design is sleek, and I can fit a 1500pg textbook, thick binder, headphones, laptop, and pencil case/notebook/notecards at a time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! I actually bought this specifically as a carry-on for air travel. I thought the shape and depth of the pockets would be perfect for laptop, books, etc. and then I wouldn’t have to unpack or wash my hiking day pack to travel. I was right! It was easy to keep things organized, remove my laptop at security, etc. I’m really happy with my purchase. There are two minor things I would change: the straps- first by adding a hip support belt and second by adding a little more padding to the straps. Even without these though I’m very happy with it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for work and leisure Love this backpack! Originally got it right he gray but exchanged for the black for a more classic look. Perfect for up to 3 days travel, with enough room for my running shoes and of course, laptop and iPad. Despite being fully packed, bag keeps its streamlined shape nicely. My only suggestion would be to add more pockets for easy access to toiletries during TSA screening, similar to laptop compartment, and to phone (maybe on the strap?) so it's in front of me rather than behind me when wearing backpack.

What is the difference between the Mens and the Womans models of the kaban?

Asked by: Rdb223
Great question! The Men's version is just slightly larger, while the shoulder straps for the Women's is cut a little different and will have extra padding :)

SIZE One Size X-Small / Small Medium / Large
Torso Size (Adjustable) N/A" 13 - 18" 15 - 20"
Torso Size (Fixed) 15 - 18" 14 - 17" 16 - 19"

1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.

1. Measure around your body where the hipbelt will rest while you hike. This should be just above your iliac crest.

The size info above is for The North Face technical and backpacking packs. Day packs and work / school packs are offered in One Size, and feature adjustable straps to fit an array of sizes.

Women's packs feature a women's-specific design for a better fit and more comfortable carry on smaller female torsos.
