Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this coat! I've finally found the perfect coat to combat cold Minnesota winters! I've always stuck to peacoat-type coats during winter because I couldn't find a puffer that wasn't too bulky or just plain ugly. This one is super warm, the hood is adjustable so it actually stays on (and doesn't ruin my hair at the same time), the length is great (I'm 5'8-1/2" and it hits my right above the knee) and the pockets are fleece lined and really warm, too. The fit is pretty true to size - I bought the Small, but the XS worked, too. The Small allowed a bit more flexibility and room in the arms and chest. I couldn't recommend this coat enough - buy it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits for curvy figure I'm 5'6" and a curvy 155 lbs with a bust and the large fits well. I ought the coat for bus and train commuting to New York City. The coat is lightweight and long which is perfect because I often wear dresses with tights. The coat is very warm in 30-40 F weatHer but I feel that when the temperature really dips , I need another layer under the coat . I tried a few other costs from north face and this was the best fit for the warmth. You can also unzip it from the bottom if it's too restrictive for walking which is a plus. You can go crazy reading reviews for these things. My best advice is to order 2 or 3 different styles and send back what does not work .

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I was looking forward to finally purchasing this jacket but was disappointed to see that the down-fill had decreased from 600 to 550 for the same price as the higher fill, why would you do that? I really do not like the North Face logo being the same color as the jacket. It was nice to have it pop with white on black. Also, the feather were popping out all over this jacket after a week of wearing it. Unfortunately, I cannot return it now that I have worn it. I like the older model much better. For less money, LLBEAN offers a similar jacket with 800 down fill.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Oompaloompa I bought this jacket for a winter trip to Germany. While it met my expectations for warmth, attractiveness, fabric and comfort, it was very unflattering. I initially thought the cinched waist would make my waist appear small--it looked like a curvy, attractive fit online. However, below the cinching, the jacket does an exaggerated flare, which made my hips look enormous. All I could think was, "I look like an Oompaloompa!" Wanted to love this jacket, but I was jilted. Maybe someone SUPER slim who needs a little hip enhancement would find it more flattering. Unfortunately, I'll have to return it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Somewhat disappointed This jacket was bought with a Russian winter trip in mind. I am disappointed to say that in the cold, windy, 15°f weather in Moscow, I WAS FREEZING. I was wearing at least 3-4 layers underneath and was still very very cold. I now consider this my Russian fall coat. Just today I pulled it out for the mild winter that Georgia can bring and it only kept me warm a few minutes into my walk! I think it is perfect for 40° Slightly windy weather but any colder or windier and you will be cold. Not worth the money- I probably could have gotten a warmer coat for a third of the price. Otherwise it is cute, and somewhat warm- if not windy and not below ~35-40°

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Super disappointed. I was so excited to get a new winter coat this year. I did my research and I picked this one. I don't have a lot of money so if I am going to invest in a $300 coat, I want to be happy with my product. I've had the coat for over a month, and the feathers keep falling out. Additionally, the hood is not even big enough to cover my head, and I don't have an abnormally large head. It's almost useless. It just doesn't feel like the quality of this coat is going to last as long as my old coat, which was half the price. Super bummed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WELL WORTH IT! This is the best coat I have ever owned by leaps and bounds! It keeps me warm without being itchy or stuffy or constricting. I wore it to play outside with my dogs in below freezing weather and windchill for an hour or so, and I was quite comfortable. I have no doubt it will work just as wonderfully in snow, ice, etc. My only very minor complaint is that the double zipper is pretty finicky on mine. You have to line them up just right or you'll wind up with a jammed zipper, and it's tough to get the zipper just so when it's down at your knees. Overall a purchase that was WELL WORTH IT! Rated 1 out of 5 by from New version not as good as old I bought the older version of this coat a few years ago. I loved it so much I wanted to add a second coat to my wardrobe in another color besides black. The new one arrived and I liked the fit and the new grey color. The outside fabric was different. I wore this coat to two football games in Oct. and it did not keep me warm! It is not the same coat as the older version!! Very disappointed! If I was cold in that jacket in Oct. I can just imagine how cold I would be in Jan.! Returned this coat to the store and the sales rep confirmed that indeed this is not as warm as the prior version. Beware if you've owned this style in the past the new version is not the same! Please bring back the old coat!!
