Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

I would not buyI liked this coat a lot, unfortunately I felt the the back was too long, it went all the way to my knees and getting in the car and out I felt the coat was twisting a lot. I inadvertently bought this coat vs another coat I was looking at at North Face. I had a very hard time trying to figure out if the coat was too big or not. I was also not really digging the shapelessness of the coat, for a casual everyday winter coat I feel like it needed a belt of some sort. Ultimately I decided to go to the store to see about sizing and length and ended up returning this coat and bought the W Gotham PKA II instead as that held more wind proof and was shorter in the legs.

Can't wait for winter![This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just received this jacket (gray color) in large size. I'm in between a medium and large (inverted pyramid body shape) size right now (6 months postpartum). There is room for layering and it fits perfectly in the bust area, however there is quite some room in the stomach and hip area. Again, I'd rather go up in size versus down and then it's too snug and I can't layer for this upcoming winter. Even with my 5'5 frame, this jacket isn't too long and I love that it covers my hips. It's also very fluffy, but not huge 90's puffy jacket if that makes sense.

I would not order a down jacket from North Face againThis jacket is warm and was the style I was looking for but unfortunately the feathers have been coming out since the moment I got it. Less than 2 months in and everyday I find feathers falling out or on my clothes. I am fully aware that it is a down jacket and there may be some feathers that fall out, but in this case there are simply too many large feathers falling out. I went into the store and asked to return the jacket at the Edina Galleria and the lady helping me was very rude and told me I had to massage the feathers in.. she then tried to do as said and ended up pulling more out.. not happy!

Chic & Functional Puff!I'm an avid traveller whose really stubborn about not packing anything too bulky. In the past when going to international locations in winter, I'd just do lots of layers. Finally hit my peak and decided to invest in something that would allow me to stay out longer and not lose my core warmth. I decided on this coat for a few reasons: 1) covers my thighs and butt (I'm 5'8") 2) pockets are lined so my hands (and phone!) can warm up when it gets really cold out 3) the interior zipper pocket is perfect for my essential cash and cards 4) it's not as bulky looking as other parkas and allows me to still layer, but to keep my hourglass silhouette for my outdoor pics.

Feathers keep falling outI live in Canada and I want to use this coat on a daily basis through out winter but am still unsure if it will be warm enough. I've worn it in -7 weather so far and it is warm enough with several layers. I hope it will be warm enough once it gets near the -20 mark. My main reason for the low review is because the feathers have been falling out non stop. I've had this coat for over a month and I keep finding feathers sticking out and my whole car seat is covered. I understand that feathers will come out in a down filled jacket but I have never had it happen to this extent.

Great Product! Will continue buying!I had the Metropolis Parka I and LOVED it. I accidentally got too close to a fire and had to buy a new one (Metropolis Parka III). It keeps me super warm while being super light. I have the Arctic Parka I also. The Metropolis Parka is great because it is comfortable and easy to move in. I am 5'8 130 and wear a size Small. This is great for cold weather. The coat is a lot longer in the back which I love because I can walk without being restricted and it cover down to about the back of my knees. Highly recommend this coat. If you need something waterproof I would suggest the Arctic Parka I/II. Love The North Face coats.

Metropulos in the Metropolis from
Love this Winter CoatI walk or run every single day and this coat has been my go to coat for years when I walk. Living in the midwest there is no such thing as inclement weather just inappropriate attire in my mind. Initially I took my daughters old Metropolis parka when she got one in a different color. It is now 10 years old and I decided that I wanted a new one for all the outdoor walking I do. I LOVE it. Even in temps with wind chill at zero or slightly below - i still walk outside and the longer length, higher neckline and hood make it possible. Not to mention with a last name like Metropulos I'm pretty sure the coat was made for me. Thanks Northface.

Great jacket but long for short peoplePurchased this to replace another similar style coat I bought 5 years ago which I love, but you can tell it's getting worn out. The style is great, love the removable hood and the velcro closure on the sleeves is great if your a shorter person who's arms are usually too short for regular sized clothing. Unfortunately, I ordered a Medium (fit suggested on Northface.com) and it was just too big. I'm 5'0", 140 and it was a bit loose in the body which I probably could have lived with but the length! Way too long for me. The back went down to almost my mid calf (longer in back) and the front was just at my knees which is too long for me. Getting a small to see if that fits better. It would be great if Northface.com included length measurements in their product descriptions.

HOW to MEASURE CHEST / BUST: Measure the total circumference of your chest at its fullest point. Ensure that the tape is horizontal when measuring.
WAIST: Place your hands on your hips and bend to the side. The indent on your side as you bend is your natural waist. Measure the total circumference at this point.
HIPS: Stand with your feet 6" apart. Measure the total circumference at the fullest point of your hip.
SLEEVE LENGTH: With your elbow slightly bent, starting at your middle neck bone, measure to the point of your shoulder and down to your wrist bone. Or take a shirt that fits well and take the same measurement.
FIT TYPES SLIM FIT: Has a close-to-body fit with fair range-of-motion. Jackets are shaped at the waist with moderate body contouring. Can be worn over base layers or light mid-layers.
STANDARD FIT: Fits true-to-size for easy, comfortable movement. Can either have slight body shaping or a straight fit without the shaping. Can be worn over mid-layers.
RELAXED FIT: Has a loose-to-oversize fit, with no shaping, and hangs away from the body. The shoulder may drop below the natural shoulder. Can be worn over heavy mid-layers.
