Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely in love I did not expect to be so overjoyed with these shorts, but I'm wowed. I love that they aren't tight against my thighs when I sit (hate the thigh spread), they seem really well-made, the colors are neutral enough to go with a lot of my weird tops, and they are comfortable without looking sloppy. I bought the khaki in the regular length and the blue in the longer inseam. Both are great! I'd describe my style as grandma-chic and I've never bought clothes from North Face before, so I might not be the typical demographic but I'll be lurking again. For reference, my natural waist is 27", my hips 33" and I'm 5'8. The small fits me perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I wanted to love these, but.... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really wanted to love these. They are cute and comfortable. However, after the very first wash, they looked like they had been bleached (I never use bleach in my machine so I knew it wasn't my mistake). They were splotchy and faded in spots. I hoped that would be it. However, I noticed in the next wash... they yellow had bled on one of my light colored tops (ruining it). Terrible dye. I would not recommend because my assumption is they will still looked bleached even if you wash them alone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Faded I loved these shorts... until the dye faded on the green ones. It looked like I sat in bleach, but I didn't-they just faded after two washes. I think these shorts fit and look great, but it's a shame that the shorts faded the way they did. I had to return them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shorts but colors fade quick [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased these shorts in 4 different colors. I love them and they fit great. Not too loose and not too tight. I am about a size 8 and a medium fit perfect. I use them as everyday shorts and for camping. The one down side is the colors fade quickly, after 1 or 2 washes and continue to fade. The beautiful bright colors I received are now muted and almost pastels. I don't mind that much but if you want to maintain the colors you receive, then these are not for you.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bummer I loved, loved, LOVED these shorts. I wore them a weekend camping and they were so perfect. I came home and washed them like the tag says to and they came out all splotchy white. All my other clothes in the load were perfectly fine, but for some reason these shorts lost it. They're unwearable now, completely ugly. I'm so sad about it.

Pretty straight, athletic figure. I was in need of a wardrobe refresh. Ten years and 15 pounds makes for uncomfortable hiking shorts. The technology has changed in that time. I love the elastic waistband. The length is good. I ordered a large and have plenty of room without feeling frumpy. I am thoroughly enjoying the shorts.

HOW to MEASURE
WAIST: Place your hands on your hips and bend to the side. The indent on your side as you bend is your natural waist. Measure the total circumference at this point.

JEANS WAIST: Measure your circumference at a point about 2 inches below the belly button.

HIPS: Stand with your feet 6" apart. Measure the total circumference at the fullest point of your hip.

INSEAM: Stand with your feet 6" apart. Measure from the top of the leg/crotch to below the ankle. Or take a pair of pants that fit well and take the same measurement.

FIT TYPES
SLIM FIT: Slim in the seat and close-to-body throughout. A straight side seam runs through the hip and thigh. Pants will be narrow through the leg, with a moderate taper from mid-thigh down.

STANDARD FIT: Trim, but not tight, in the seat with an ease through the hip and thigh. Pants will be narrow through the leg with a moderate taper from mid-thigh down.

RELAXED FIT: Has a generous fit in the seat and is roomy through the hip and thigh. Ease through leg with a slight taper from mid-thigh down.
