Starting from the bottom, a Surface Control rubber outsole is ready to help you through slushy parking lots and slippery sidewalks, as it's optimized for winter weather. The toe is wrapped in rubber for extra protection before leading into the full grain leather upper to deliver the stylish good looks. This boot is waterproof to take on the snow, plus 100g synthetic insulation warms from ankle to toe.

However, have to return as there is a really "hard" place inside that hits my ankles and makes it very uncomfortable. I had a hard time trying to return. First agent, not helpful, in fact rude. The return label had been cut off, so finally an agent sent me a return label that I could print. Sad, because I wanted them, Sad because customer service was way below par.

What I do want to add, though, is that I and my family have purchased both at your San Francisco flagship store, and online, many of your products through the years. In particular, your jackets are outstanding. Your materials and styles are of the best quality and last for an extremely long time. My only hope is that you continue to carry on this tradition of quality, wear, practicality and style. Three generations of our family have enjoyed owning North Face clothing, not only for skiing, hiking but for general wear.

They run small at the toe part but get loose at the ankle, they might work for you cause I like shoes a bit snug my ankle so they won't move up and down whenever I walk. If you like flyknit shoes like me, they're definitely not for you. I normally wear 8 or 7.5. Follow the feedback, I already ordered a half size up 8.5, but realized they only fit me with a thin sock. If you like wearing a thick sock, you should get a size up.

The sole is lightweight and flexible, unlike hiking or snow boots. Unfortunately, I have to return them because although I bought a full size larger than I normally wear, they are way too snug even with lightweight socks. Like other reviewers have pointed out, the tongue is attached to the boot at the sides so you are unable to pull it all the way forward to put on the boot. It was somewhat awkward but because I went up a full size, I could get my foot in easily. The problem is that the seam/joint where the tongue is attached produces a hard knot which rubs against my ankle bone. No amount of breaking in will fix that. Fortunately The North Face makes returns simple.
