Rated 4 out of 5 by from Improved model I have the last model of this backpack. The straps on the old version are far superior than the ones on this version. The front pocket doesn't go all the way down and that's a good thing because it gives more space to the main compartment. The side water bottle compartments are way better in this version. They're bigger and higher. My 30 oz yeti cup fits perfectly in the holder. I purchased the one with the rose gold accents because I wanted a less sport looking bag for work. Over all I do like the bag and it's improvements.but, The straps are not great and not really comfortable but I don't plan on carrying it for long periods of time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Backpack This is a great backpack for work, the gym, and short trips. I'm a convention go-er and this backpack holds all of my things with plenty of extra space and lots of secure pockets for phones, wallets, tablets, and other valuable items. I do agree with previous comments that the straps could be more comfortable. They aren't well padded and hit the collarbones and shoulder at an odd spot. Since I don't wear it for long of periods of time very often it doesn't bother me, but someone looking for an all day backpack will probably have issues. Overall this is an excellent backpack. If there hadn't been an issue with the straps I would have given it 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING BAG AND FAST SHIPPING THIS PRODUCT IS SO AMAZING. Before buying it I watched videos on youtube and looked at my friends bag (she had the surge) and it looked so spacious which is what I was looking for as well as stylish. I am in college and have 2 textbooks to carry around that are pretty big as well as multiple folders, a laptop, and chargers etc. Even with all those contents inside, it still fit perfectly and was comfortable. The back of the bag has an indention for lumbar support along with cushion that feels like heaven and thicker straps making the backpack feel as light as possible along with comfortable. To make it look girly I tied a cute little hair scarf on the handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for medical school and bicycle commute! I use this backpack for medical school and I absolutely love it. It is perfect for my commute by bicycle because of the waist and chest strap, as well as the comfortable shoulder straps. The pockets fit my large water bottles perfectly and there are so many perfect compartments to put my other school supplies. The backpack does not appear huge but it fits everything I need (two water bottles, food, gym clothes, lap top, notebooks). I enjoy the 3-part computer sleeve which fits my computer and ipad great and provides protective cushioning. There is nothing negative about this backpack. I can tell it is going to last me at years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two weeks in and feeling good I've used this products the last two weeks and after a few quick hiccups (the straps were a little uncomfortable at first but are awesome now) I'm very comfortable with this backpack. I love all of the pockets that allow for quick accessibility. At 5'2", it felt a little big at first but now I believe it's the perfect size. The bottom has little structural support so it doesn't stand up on its own and hangs a little weird depending on what you put in it (I often have my flute case and it bulges a bit). I never get too hot or tired when wearing the backpack and have carried it across Houston and a college campus. The expandable straps are very helpful but I'm unsure how to remove them. Overall, love the bag! Don't think to hard, just buy one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overall great travel backpack, shoulder straps lacking Bought this backpack for my frequent traveling. Spent about 11 hours walking all over Manhattan shortly after I bought this backpack. This thing has an insane amount of space! Looks beautiful, and even the dark colored option is highly visible when light is shined upon it. My only gripe with the backpack is that the shoulder straps are severely lacking in comfort. The back support is incredible, however, after walking all day with this (and walking all day with my other backpack the day before) I had gotten extremely sore collar bones, to the point where they are still bruised and swollen. I haven't had this with my other backpack which had excellent shoulder straps but so-so back support. If this backpack had better shoulder straps I would never buy another backpack model as long as I lived. Solid 8/10 overall. 10/10 for looks 6/10 for comfort.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shoulder straps dug into my collar bone, returning I bought this bag for a 2 weeks vacation overseas with my young family, primarily to stow jackets and toys for my toddler kids. Once the backpack is filled, obviously it's heavy at this point, the curved strap dig into my collar bone and I had to endure this during the first few days of the trip where we had to travel quite a bit. I tried on my uncle's surge backpack with regular wide straps and that felt much nicer. I will most likely get that pack when I return this pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for professor-ing I'm a professor (and mom) and almost always carry my laptop, cords, notebooks, books, wallet, first aid stuff, lunches, and various other stuff. This has room for everything. Lots of pockets to sort things, but also big compartments (to hold my own little organizing bags). This tips over because of the extra protection at the bottom of the laptop compartment--a little annoying, but definitely not a deal-breaker. Also feels MUCH lighter when wearing as a backpack than when I pick it up fully packed, which is great. Also, the black looks professional enough for my purposes. Oh, and I can carry a large (32oz insulated) water bottle AND a travel mug in the side pockets--a mandatory feature for me!

Size Guide

The North Face Women's Packs

SIZE One Size X-Small / Small Medium / Large
Torso Size (Adjustable) N/A" 13 - 18" 15 - 20"
Torso Size (Fixed) 15 - 18" 14 - 17" 16 - 19"
Hipbelt Size 24 - 35" 24 - 30" 30 - 36"

HOW to MEASURE TORSO SIZE
1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.

HOW to MEASURE HIPBELT SIZE
1. Measure around your body where the hipbelt will rest while you hike. This should be just above your iliac crest.

NOTES
The size info above is for The North Face technical and backpacking packs. Day packs and work / school packs are offered in One Size, and feature adjustable straps to fit an array of sizes.
