PrimaLoft insulations and fabrics

PrimaLoft
PrimaLoft was originally developed to serve as a water resistant, synthetic alternative to goose down for the U.S. Army. Since then PrimaLoft has been a leader in insulation and fabric technologies in the outdoor industry, and is used by the top outerwear and clothing brands to craft pieces that offer warmth without bulky weight, packablity, and both water resistance and breathability for all your outdoor adventures.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

The North Face Thermoball

The North Face Thermoball
Thermoball utilizes PrimaLoft synthetic fiber clusters to closely mimic down clusters. This offers the heat retaining power of down, but with the added durability and versatility of synthetic insulation. It'll keep you toasty warm, even in wet-weather conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fourth thermolball jacket bought in a year Absolutely love this jacket, in fact I've bought four of them for myself within a year, first one I lost taking public transportation so I had to rebuy, then I bought two other colors. The material is amazing, super lightweight but keeps me warm. I wear everyday with San Francisco weather but have also worn it hiking in a blizzard in Utah, it still kept me warm. I love everything about it but between the different colors the material is very different. Despite buying the exact ones in different colors I found the the black one was softer and more compressible compared to the matte red and taupe ones. Nevertheless the material is good and warm. As a pettite female (5'2", 95lbs) northface is the only brand that fits me well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket!!! I purchased the bright navy which is a deep purple, a bit darker than what appears online but a very beautiful color. The jacket runs true to size. It is a slimmer cut and quite flattering. Considering the thinness of this jacket it is quite warm making it perfect for more moderate climates. If you plan on wearing a thick sweater underneath I would suggest going up one size. You won't be disappointed wirh this jacket!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super cute puffer! I bought this jacket a couple of weeks ago. I purchased the XS which is still a little snug since I had my second son 3 months ago (5’3 126 currently) it will be perfect when I’ve lost the baby weight with a light sweater under. We live in Morro Bay so this is the perfect jacket for everyday use in fall and winter since the coast never drops below 45 degrees. I do not think it would uphold in snowy conditions since it’s perfect for a coastal climate. I love this jacket and would recommend . The color is fantastic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Necessarily travel companion This is my second north face thermoball. I bought one last year for a 15 day trip across southern Ireland. The jacket was a perfect companion for the fluctuating Irish weather and the ability to roll itself into its own pocket and be thrown into a backpack without adding a ton of weight is priceless. I’m headed back to Ireland again next month to tour the western side and this jacket was such a necessity last year I decided to pick up a second one in a different color!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight and warm I bought this for my trip to Alaska in late August. I'm 5'5'' and 126 lb, 27'' waist and I purchased size small in red sequoia. It's roomy enough to fit a fleece mid layer and base layer underneath. I've worn it in towns and while hiking in Denali NP and it performed very well in every situation. It repelled light rain very well (I put on a proper rain jacket in heavier rain) and kept wind away without making me sweat. I could pretty quickly stuff it into its own pocket and it didn't take much space in my backpack. Did I mention that it looks cute? It's not super form fitting but it ain't boxy either. The color is matte, subtle brown-ish red and looks great in photos (stands out in green/grey/blue backgrounds). [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snug as bug in a thermorug It lept out of the package and promptly affixed itself to my body. Day4: haven’t removed. Warm as ever. Great cold weather running jacket too. It basically runs and keeps me warm inside. It’s a thin thermopuff. No fat tire fluffy body parts. This NF Red is like a brick red. After years of black jackets I branched our with color too. Worth it. If you’re a Patagonia go with the Patagonia. If you’re a NF fan, go with this puff. 5’6”, 170, athletic arms. Got the large. Yaaassssss! Could have sized to a medium but I like to layer. Doesn’t zip into NF older generation triclimates FYI. But thin enough to slide into the shell Bc this material is pack able . I wear a mismatched outer tri shell for the mountain. Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Toasty! This is my second ThermoBall jacket. My first one is still in great shape but is too big on me, so I was excited to buy a new one! I live in the White Mountains where it gets COLD. I can easily wear this jacket hiking or skiing (so light!) and stay super warm. There are times I even wish it had vents because I can sometimes get a little TOO warm. I might feel cold right when I step outside, but once my body heat gets trapped in there I'm warm for good. I haven't noticed any problems with the stitching or filling, everything has been great for me and I've been wearing it every day for several weeks now. I wear a medium or large in shirts, depending, and I'm a DD. The XL jacket fits me well and leaves plenty of room for a thicker layer underneath if necessary. No complaints...would buy it again and would recommend it to anyone! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

To what degree does this keep you warm? 30’s or?

Asked by: Mistymoo
Hello. We don't provide temperature ratings for our products because warmth is subjective. That said, this jacket would not be warm enough for most people in 30 degree temperatures. It is a very nice fall, spring or winter activities jacket. The insulation traps the body heat generated by the wearer so if you were skiing or running outside in the winter, you could stay warm, but it's not warm enough for waiting at a bus stop. Thank you for your question.
