DWR tech

Durable Water Repellent
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

The North Face Thermoball

The North Face Thermoball
Thermoball utilizes PrimaLoft synthetic fiber clusters to closely mimic down clusters. This offers the heat retaining power of down, but with the added durability and versatility of synthetic insulation. It'll keep you toasty warm, even in wet-weather conditions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from beautiful but not 600 fill power warm The jacket looks great, fits me (6 feet tall, 160 lbs.) perfectly with sleeves just the right length. Features like zipper pull and pockets are fine, keeps the wind out too. It's the expected warmth that's not there. I first wore the jacket outside, 43F, no wind, light base layer and my arms were Cold. Once I started hiking it held in my warmth just fine, but standing or sitting in a cold place it does not retain my body heat. That said, I've increased the thickness of the underlayers and the jacket is fine. I haven't hiked with it and a backpack yet, nor taken a bike ride. Will I wear it skiing? Can I get enough layers on under it? I'll know in another month.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would be perfect except for plus-size issue Like, I suspect, many plus-sized women, I have been searching for an ultra-light-weight travel jacket. Having ordered and returned several, I really don't think there are any out there. North Face, I bet you could sell a bushel of them. This jacket came recently and I loved the weight, the color and the way it looked. Then I tried it on and was very sad. It fit perfectly in the shoulders, sleeves and arms, but no way would it go around my hips. I don't think I'm a weirdly-shaped plus-sized woman, but you should know that our hips are a little larger than those of a teenage boy. PLEASE think about making some clothing that fits actual people.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Excellent Jacket! I bought this jacket in the mint blue and it's a beautiful color. Everyone loves it and they are not afraid to tell me! I ordered the jacket online after checking the sizing chart on the website. The size is spot on and fits perfectly. The sleeves are long enough and cover my wrists. The jacket is very light weight and at first I didn't think it would be very warm - it weighs about as much as a windbreaker. Now that the weather here in Wisconsin has gotten colder, the jacket has proven itself to be warmer than I ever thought it could be. It hasn't gotten below zero here yet but I think that wearing a sweater underneath the jacket will keep me plenty warm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Quality, Ridiculous Return Policy I bought this in black and within a few weeks noticed the jacket was pilling on the OUTSIDE. What is weird is that you would think it would be black pills then but alas no they WERE WHITE?!?! It's almost as if they was the insulation sneaking out of it and then pilling. I went to return it to the store and get the more shiny version of the Thermalball as jacket as I have owned one of those for 3+ years with no issues and a vest for 2+ years. I was SHOCKED to find out that NorthFace no longer allows you to return garments that have been worn?!? Instead they send it to their warranty department--WHAT? So are they going to shave it and send it back?!?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So disappointed with this coat So disappointed and let down by NorthFace. I have always done with NorthFace for my active gear - jackets, backpacks, etc. Never been let down until now. This coat looks awful. It is new - I have been wearing it about one month and the filling keeps coming out and sticking to the coat. It looks terrible and worn out! I thought at first it was just because it was new and the filling was moving and settling, but it hasn't stopped. It has gotten worse. I don't know what's going on, particularly as all these reviews are positive. you can see the white specs in the photos. It looks like when nylon wears out and becomes bally. A bit embarrassed to wear it now actually.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Feels too small around shoulders and chest I wanted to love this Thermoball and was excited to get it. The fit guide prompted me to order a Medium as 71% of people liked that size, I am 5'8 and 135. Unfortunately the Medium was so tight in the shoulder area that every time I lifted my arms the jacket stayed up. The shoulder seam came well above where a usual shoulder is on all my Medium jackets. If you have narrow shoulders and are a 36A, then the Medium may work for you. If you value comfort and movement you may want to skip this jacket or go with a larger size. To solve all this took a 40 minute wait on North Face customer service, no reply text from them before purchase or chat feature available. It's going back, hopefully the Large will work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A lot of compliments! However.... Overall, In my opinion its a very nice jacket. However, it is not as warm as a down, but warmer than a leather, wool, poly-filled jacket. I get a lot of compliments on the jacket too! I think if you wanted it for skiing or working outdoors in the snow you would need to wear layers for it to be extra warm. It runs smaller than the regular 3/4 coats, especially around the hip and waist. I purchased in a size large but it was too big so I returned it for a medium. I believe its design to react to body heat because when I am in the car it can be too warm. Nevertheless, I brought it, and I am keeping it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feel It This jacket is warm, comfortable, well made, true-to-size, and much better looking on a woman than on its own, as in the online catalog's photo. The diamond stitching pattern allows the fabric to drape around curves in a very flattering way. How many winter sports jackets show-off the feminine figure? The light-weight Thermoball material fascinates people everywhere, evoking multiple requests for feeling the sleeve. The fabric really is amazing. It's so light, yet retains body heat. The head-turning warm olive green is gorgeous! I'm extremely satisfied with my Thermoball jacket.
