ThermaCapture Radiant Heat Technology is a proprietary reflective coating that we apply to a range of surfaces. By reflecting radiant heat back to your body that is otherwise lost, this extremely lightweight coating turns that surface into a very efficient heat reflector, amplifying warmth without the excess weight or bulk of added, conventional insulating materials.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective out of box I bought two of these and inflated one to test the SV-Valve and found a leak in the fabric by my thigh. Called for advice and was told how rare this was. As if my new product was some alt-reality. I asked for a warranty/replace and was told they were slammed. Was told I could use the permanent repair kit but it's not even available and the field repair kit which came with it wasn't considered permanent. So no warranty/no repair on a new product. I looked at the permanent repair kit which apparently isn't available and all the reviewers said the patches leak. Need Advice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would absolutely recommend it, if you can afford it. Used for Backpacking and lightweight camping I have been impressed. It packs down smaller than my 3/4 length Thermarest Prolite and the Speed valve means it only takes me 5 (all be it very big) breaths to pump up. I have seen comments about the SV not sealing properly, and that happened to me once, but after re-rolling the seal with a little more care I have never had another problem. Very comfortable and in -10C last week I didn't notice any cold coming through the mattress. Still plan to take a foam cell underneath for winter camping, but that is only a couple of nights a year and thats why I chose not to get the 4 season option. Stoked on this gear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from lose the speed valve ASAP! The net is full of complaints, even TARs own page shows very mediocre review results. Though I needed a light, rectangular pad like many. Choices are very limited, the X-Therm Max is more weight as I wanted and more insulation as well. So I still have this pad a go despite all the warnings thinking maybe all those ppl are just not skilled enough to properly close the svalve. Little did I know. After several nights waking up fully flattened, I'm giving up. This is a pain, a heavy one on top. The normal X-lite is everyone's favourite, this one is only damaging reputation. Just make this pad without the svalve so people have the choice between mummy and rectangular - just like with the X-Therm. Why those shenanigans? It will be just as beloved as every other X-lite!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from do not buy - terrible I purchased 2 of these mats. One for me and one for my friend as we are walking the bibbulmun track 1000km in Western Australia. Her mat went down on the very first night. It had come straight out of the packet into her bag, we had looked and looked for a leak. Nothing. As we were on the track, with no way out there was not a solution. we figured that it was probably just faulty. On the 4th evening my mat suddenly decided it would also join the deflation party. What!!! Now both mats are faulty!!! Very very odd. We have an amazing tent which does not have any punctures, both mats have never been anywhere but in our tent. When we arrive home I will be returning both mats!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would not recommend this product After only a dozen or so uses, this product failed on at least half of those occasions. When inflated PER MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTIONS the product simply does not hold air. I have had to re-inflate several times, and woken up to find the mat deflated several times. Very disappointed, especially considering I paid over $200 for this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Stars - No Doubt about it Been using the XLite MAX SV for our latest outings. WOW! Why didn't someone think up the Speed Valve sooner. Fast and efficient. The mattress itself is pretty much the same as the original XLite, at least I can't tell any difference, it has always been a great sleeping pad, light weight and comfortable. They like to say it packs up to the size of a water bottle, but seriously, roll it into your sleeping bag and you'll never even notice it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Pad - read if you are concerned about defects It's amazing. I used it for over 20 nights. 2 of my other friends have it and also used it probably over a month each. It's basically a rectangular Xlite, so it has a decent R value and the comfort is pretty high. What really makes it is the new valve. Makes inflating the pad probably 4 x quicker and easier than the traditional valve. The con is that the pad is slightly heavier this way, but unless you are really into ultralight this should not be a problem. In response to those that claim the valve is leaking - I am honestly not sure how is this possible except in cases of user error or puncture. Watch the instructional video on the website and make sure the other small valve is fully closed. I cannot imagine how the speedvalve can leak unless the pad is punctured since waterproof roll top bags (airtight) work the exact same way. You can roll up a paper bag the same way and make the top airtight. I used the speed valve in a hurry without taking too much care rolling it up and never had any issues. Neither have my friends for over 100 days slept on this pad total. Unless there is some terrible manufacturing defect that my group has all luckily avoided, I do think this is one of the best gear purchases you can make.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great...while it lasted I bought this pad about a month ago and loved the combination of comfort and light weight. The speed valve was ok, but seriously how hard is it to blow up a mattress? On our first trek out it was super comfortable, for about an hour. Turns out the base of the nozzle had a slow leak so it wouldn't fully hold air for more than 20 minutes. Needless to say I spent the entire night filling up the pad, slept for maybe 90 minutes total, and returned it as soon as I got back to civilization. Good thing we were only out for two days. For the high price this thing should be bomb proof.
