Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why did I deny myself? Why, having lived nearly 50 years with inferior backpacks, have I denied myself the pleasure of owning a truly great one? For just a little extra cheddar, I now own the single best, most useful, most comfortable, highest-quality backpack I have ever shrugged onto my back. It fits my 15" laptop beautifully (plus all cables and goodies in the top pocket) plus an overnight worth of clothes and my dop kit, sits snug on my back. I have gotten multiple unsolicited compliments on the minimalist style while wearing both weekend clothes and business suits. My only regret is not buying this sooner.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Falls short in many ways/wasted my money Could be great but falls short. Water bottle pockets are useless. I like to carry large water bottles and the side pockets on these just don't accommodate. The zip entrance to toe top pocket and back pocket is way to small, except for maybe a child. The pack could also use a key chain clip and a few more stash pockets. It a real shame cause this could of been a great pack. I sent an email some time back requesting a resolution but never got a response back. Now I have a new backpack just taking up space in my closet. Would have been real nice if you stood by your product and more importantly your customers. Money down the drain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works for me I was looking for a plain looking backpack without a big front pouch because I plan on traveling a lot and am concerned about pickpocketing. I eventually settled on this one. I really like the top, mesh pouch because it's accessible (best place to put chargers and snacks I think). The side pockets are everything, I love them so much. I don't really use the secret back-corner pocket that much but it's nice that it's there. The main compartment where I throw everything is great! I can fit all of my books and bobbles in there. I don't really use the built-in pen pouch but again it's nice that its there. My 13" laptop fits alongside the other stuff. I would say that this is a little too bulky and big for me but I like it a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly big If you are short like me and feel like every backpack that you try on makes you look like turtle, the small is perfect for that. Plenty of room for all commuting needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect commute backpack I really love this backpack. I was looking for something slim to use on my commute that could carry all my stuff without being too bulky. My laptop, wallet, compact umbrella, phone, keys, water bottle, and small lunch kit all fit right inside without having to do too much Tetris. It's a really sleek design without all those jangling zippers and gaping pockets. Basically, a purse you can wear on your back. I bought the navy blue with red zipper detail and I love the little pop of color. My only complaints: while a 15" macbook pro does fit in the laptop sleeve, it's a teeny bit of a squeeze to get it into the elasticized opening. It's not a deal breaker, but I do have to pause for a second to wiggle it in there. Also, I wish the zipper opening for the pocket in the top flap was a bit wider. And a plug for the company: this backpack came delivered to my house in a poly mailer with a neat bike map of their home city San Francisco on it, how cool! And, they gave me a couple weeks to use the backpack before requesting I write a review, which just seems so much more civilized than other online retailers. I'm really happy both with my backpack and the service I received from Timbuk2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great commuting bag! Lately I've been through a few commuter bags from a few outdoor brands and it didn't turn out so well due to quality issues or too many spaghetti bag straps. I gave this bag a try since I've owned one of their original messenger bags from back in the days. This bag has surpassed my expectations. The quality and durability is there for daily usage without making you look like a student. It fits my 13 inch Macbook with ease. There isn't a separate zipper compartment to store A/C plugs or chargers. Have to make due with the available space in the bag compartments. The straps are much narrower than the typical backpacks, but are very comfortable. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Urbanite Backpack Been using this backpack for school daily use, as well as some weekend excursions and it fits everything excellently, comfortably, and is water resistant for sure. Even fits my 15" laptop! But not in the little laptop sleeve in the backpack. Overall a solid backpack I can see myself using for awhile. Thanks Timbuk2!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a gift for the friend abroad The backpack is modern and stylish as well as light. It features a laptop slip holder against the back which is very nice, especially as the holder is slightly lifted up from the bottom of the bag, so when you place your bag down it doesn't immediately bang your laptop into the ground. A major con of, not this bag in particular, but all products by Timbuk2, is that if you're planning on sending this product to someone outside the U.S. (I was sending this to my friend as a gift in Germany) then buyer beware that Timbuk2 does NOT allow you to pay for the international taxes on the product. First, this means the total cost is actually some unknown upper bound on the cost you pay on the website. Second, this essentially means the customer must track down UPS or whatever company the company ends up using to send the product, call up several departments worth of representatives, chase down the package, and try to pay the correct taxes on the product, before it can be successfully sent to the gift recipient. Upon suggesting that this approach was particularly difficult for the client to a representative of Timbuk2, the representative first explained the difficulties of a small company in conducting international shipping, and suggested I buy another bag. Why? I'm not entirely sure. It was an extremely unhelpful conversation topped off with an attempt to have me purchase another product for no clear reason. I appreciate and prefer small companies but will probably not be buying from Timbuk2 again until its shipping policies make more sense.
