Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serious Winter Coat Last winter was one of the worst I've seen here in Boston, and after that beating I decided I wanted a nice warm parka like all the fashionable people around town were wearing. I had received a "parka" from a different brand for Xmas, and the first cold day of the year I took it out for a test drive, where it failed miserably. Not warm enough. Did some research, and found good things about Fjallraven's Polar Guide Parka. Decided to give it a shot, and man am I glad that I did. I take a ferry to work, and standing on the dock at 6:00AM this morning I was in my furnace-warm coat. The wind howled, I smiled. The quality of this coat is very good, and the fit is perfect. I'm tall and thin (6' 2" 180 lbs), would normally buy medium tall shirts etc, and this fits me perfectly. The sleeves are nice and long, and the body is close fitting, but not tight. Bless those Scandinavians. Pros: Warm. Really warm. If its above freezing, too warm. Great styling Great fit lots of pockets Cons: Could be an inch or two longer, but not short by any means "Olive" color is more brown in some lights If you need a warm coat, buy this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Warm i prolly could of went a size smaller but i also wore it with a thin shirt im 6'1 235 lbs 48in chest 38 waist i got XXL very warm i must say hood is alil big but thats expected suppose to be wearing a hat with this kinda jacket i mean it is ment for mushers. overall though very satisfied with it specially since its 10 degrees out her in NYC and windy as heck and you dont feel it at all i think i might apply the greenland wax but i don't think its needed. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good parka If you're like me you were deciding between this and the Barents. There's a lot to like about the Barents, but at the end of the day there were two deciding factors in favor of the Polar Guide: cut and warmth. This coat certainly runs large so size down, but even then the cut is comfortably full (6'0 165, I normally wear a M, but a S is perfect). It never feels too roomy with just a button down underneath, and never feels too tight layered up with a thick sweater or fleece. The cut plus the length also allows it to fit very comfortably over a suit jacket, if you need to take that into consideration. For comparison the Barents was just too tight under the arms and around the chest for me. Second is the warmth. This is a nice, heavy, warm parka, and that's what it's all about, isn't it? The hood is huge and when fully zipped is incredible at shielding your face from wind, and there are thick, heavy cuffs around the wrists for keeping out cold and wind. Snap closures all along the front zipper and lower bellows pockets (not velcro as shown in some web photos out there) are nice and sturdy. I tend to get cold easily but I've been pleasantly surprised how warm it is for synthetic, it compares favorably to down coats I've had, and certainly is more than enough for winters in northern NJ without making me cramped by heat. The waterproof hydratic liner is great too, as we get as much cold rain/sleet as snow around here in winter. There are some minor gripes - first, I wish they made it completely out of G-1000 for added durability rather than polyamide with G-1000 reinforcements. I assume that was for cost or weight or both. Second, the lower hand warmer pockets are only lined on one side with fleece, which is a little absurd for a heavy winter parka. Just line them completely in fleece. Overall a really excellent parka, well worth the cost, and figures to hold up for a long time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
