Rated 5 out of 5 by from I layer this parka over my R1 hoody and micro puff, and am still comfortable moving at -40 degrees My wife and I each got a Das Parka two winters ago, with plans to take them on our Denali trip. We moved to interior Alaska two winters ago, and have had many opportunities to wear them. For snowshoeing, it's PERFECT. It stuffs as small as my Micro Puffy jacket, and keeps me plenty warm during the breaks, even at forty below! It's definitely not a stand-alone parka, but a great final addition to the layering system.,,,,At high camp on Denali, we waited for three days at minus 25 degrees F with 25 - 35 mph winds, before we got a summit day. This parka kept me plenty warm while maintaining and improving our snow walls, and during trips to the "outhouse"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best synthetic parka available When you might get wet, or fear the possibility, then the DAS really is the answer. It's ridiculously warm, so warm that you can wear just a thin t-shirt underneath and be fine in 10 degree weather with 50mph winds, or even colder if you're moving. Be warned, if you overheat easily you will sweat in this if it's over 20 degrees, but that's probably a good thing as a whole. Couldn't recommend a better Paty product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bombproof piece of gear This jacket is absolutely great. I am 5'5" and the small fits perfectly. I would equate the actual benefits of this piece to what the Patagonia site advertises--a heavy, no-frills jacket whose sole purpose is to provide crazy warmth. The jacket is wind-proof, water-resistant with its dwr, and just downright toasty. I have taken it out in -20 wind chills and it does not disappoint. The "DAS" stands for dead air space--the most effective insulator. No heat escapes this thing and no cold enters. ,,,,Feature and fit wise, the jacket is great. It does have a slimmer fit and looks good, if you're into that sort of thing. The elastic cuffs on the sleeves effectively trap heat inside and negate the dreaded cold wrist syndrome. What's more, the zipper pockets' length matches the diameter of the sleeves. This creates a good (albeit not great) block when you need to warm your paws. ,,,,PS: The actual jacket isn't as shiny as the photos depict. It looks much better in person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomber alpine protection. This is exactly what a belay jacket should be. The boxy cut, odd length, high pockets - sorry, this isn't made to look good getting a latte in Boulder. The cut is ideal for layering and storing your big winter gloves in the inner mesh pockets to dry off, or keep a thermos/water bottle. The length gives a little extra coverage but the 2-way zipper allows you to belay easily off your harness. The pockets are high so you can reach them even with a harness on over it if need be. These days it's getting harder and harder to make an argument against using down, especially with the new dry treatments - lighter, warmer, more compressible. BUT despite being a little bulkier this jacket is just awesome for its intended use. Get it soaked, synthetic doesn't care. Slice it open with an ice screw accidentally and no feathers flying everywhere/emergency repairs on the climb. It's also more affordable than a comparable down parka. I'm 6'2", 175lbs and the Medium worked best for me. front/rear length is adequate, sleeves are a bit short but doesn't matter because I don't wear this without big gloves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket Great jacket, it's warm, especially if you use it as a final layer combined with base layer/fleece/micro puffy/etc. It packs fairly well but not great. Still keeps you warm even if it gets wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So warm yet light weight! I couldn't believe how warm it is with the lightness of weight ! I love it! I'll be wearing it a lot as well as it being easy to travel with!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best parka I've worn DAS parkas for years and years, and just got this one for my boyfriend (in black)-I know he will love his as much as I love mine-light weight, doesn't look like bubble wrap, and super warm.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice jacket, poor fit This thing comes in cool colors and is definitely warm, but fits like a hefty garbage bag. I much prefer my Black Diamond Stance Belay Parka, which fits well and still leaves plenty of room for layers. I recommend sizing down, or going with another jacket.
